Notre Dame beat Miami 31–24 on Saturday, November 7, while Georgia defeated Ole Miss 42–7, according to NCAA.com’s Week 10 results. Miami entered the weekend at No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings and Georgia at No. 2. The outcomes put the top of the next rankings in focus, with the new order still to be decided.
Several other ranked teams lost, too. Tennessee defeated Kentucky, Oregon beat Ohio State and Oklahoma beat Florida. This is a roundup of completed Saturday games, updated on Sunday, November 8. The ranking numbers below describe where the teams stood entering those games.
Notre Dame wins by a touchdown
The No. 11 Irish finished seven points ahead of Miami. Georgia had a much larger margin against No. 10 Ole Miss, winning by 35 points. Together, the two results leave the ranking committee with a new set of outcomes to consider at the top of its list.
Utah, the No. 3 team entering the day, beat No. 9 BYU 28–20. Texas, ranked seventh, defeated No. 18 Missouri 34–20. Both were wins against ranked opponents, though the margins and the teams’ positions in the rankings were different.
Tennessee and Oregon win ranked matchups
Tennessee’s 34–6 victory over No. 6 Kentucky was among the day’s more lopsided ranked results. NCAA.com’s recap credited the Volunteers with 240 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Kentucky did not score in the second half.
No. 23 Oregon defeated No. 12 Ohio State 41–28, a 13-point margin. Oklahoma also won against a ranked opponent, beating No. 24 Florida 23–7. These results explain why a list of Saturday’s winners alone gives only part of the picture. The ranking attached to each opponent shows which teams went into those games above the eventual winner.
No. 5 Alabama beat No. 14 LSU 31–13. The Crimson Tide’s record moved to 7–2, while LSU fell to 6–3, according to NCAA.com’s recap. Those records provide a separate measure from the score of one game, with more of the regular season still to play.
