Gulfstream G300: The Super-Midsize Jet Built to Replace the G280

The Gulfstream G300 is the company’s new super-midsize business jet and the direct replacement for the popular G280. It brings big-jet technology into a smaller aircraft, and it is already flying.

Gulfstream introduced the aircraft on 30 September 2025 at its Discover the Difference customer event in Savannah, Georgia. There, company president Mark Burns showed a full-scale cabin mock-up and images of the first aircraft in production. Its task is clear, but it is not easy. The G280 passed its 300th customer delivery in June 2025, so the new jet replaces a proven seller.

    Gulfstream G300 at a Glance

    • Role: super-midsize business jet, replacing the G280
    • Range: 3,600 nautical miles at Mach 0.80
    • Passengers: up to 10, in two living areas
    • Flight deck: new Harmony Flight Deck with six touchscreens
    • Engines: two Honeywell HTF7250G turbofans
    • Status: in flight testing, with service entry targeted for 2027

A Flight Deck From the Bigger Gulfstreams

The headline feature is the new Harmony Flight Deck, which makes its debut on the Gulfstream G300.

It uses six touchscreen displays. In addition, it adds what Gulfstream calls Phase-of-Flight intelligence. This interface shows pilots the information and controls they need for each stage of the flight, such as taxi, climb, cruise or approach.

The main flight display also includes synthetic vision. As a result, pilots see terrain and runways as 3D imagery, even when visibility outside is poor.

On top of that, the jet gets Gulfstream’s Predictive Landing Performance System. During the approach, it works out where the aircraft will stop on the runway and shows that point in real time. Runway overruns remain a stubborn safety problem in business aviation, so this matters.

For pilots, the real gain is familiarity. Because the cockpit looks and behaves like those on larger Gulfstreams, moving between types should be easier for operators with mixed fleets.

    Gulfstream G300 Range and Performance

Two Honeywell HTF7250G engines power the aircraft. Each one produces around 7,600lb of thrust, and both sit on a clean, swept Gulfstream wing.

Gulfstream quotes a range of 3,600 nautical miles at Mach 0.80. At a faster Mach 0.84, the figure drops to 3,000nm. In practice, that puts routes such as New York to London within reach.

However, range alone does not decide sales in this class. Many super-midsize jets use smaller regional airports close to where passengers want to go. For this reason, runway performance counts too, and Gulfstream says it has tuned the design for short fields as well as fuel efficiency.

    Inside the Gulfstream G300 Cabin

The cabin seats up to 10 passengers across two living areas. It also has a full galley and a generous baggage compartment.

Gulfstream describes it as the largest cabin in its class. Ten Panoramic Oval Windows line the walls, so a signature feature of the larger Gulfstreams now reaches a smaller jet.

Comfort is about more than space, though. At 41,000ft, the cabin altitude is just 4,800ft, which helps to reduce fatigue on long flights. The air supply is 100% fresh rather than recirculated, while a plasma ionisation system helps to clean it. Low cabin noise is also part of the pitch.

Gulfstream will complete each interior at its facility in Dallas.

    From Mock-Up to First Flight

Development then moved fast once the aircraft went public.

Before the reveal, engineers had already logged more than 22,000 hours of laboratory testing. Much of that work took place in an integration test facility with an iron bird, a ground rig that copies the aircraft’s systems.

Then, on 5 December 2025, the first G300 took off from Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel. The flight lasted 2 hours and 25 minutes. During it, the jet reached Mach 0.75 at 30,000ft.

That flight followed more than 2,000 hours of ground testing. Meanwhile, two more test aircraft were already in production. Together, they now carry the test campaign that leads to certification, and Gulfstream is aiming for first deliveries in 2027.

    How It Compares With Rivals

The new jet enters one of the busiest segments in business aviation.

Its closest rival is Bombardier’s Challenger 3500. Buyers will also look at Cessna’s Citation Longitude and Embraer’s Praetor 600. Late-model G280s on the used market will compete for attention too.

Still, the Gulfstream G300 does not reinvent the category. Instead, it offers a newer package from a brand with very loyal customers. That means big-jet avionics, a larger cabin and oval windows, at a size and price below the long-range models.

For current G280 owners, it is the obvious next step. For other buyers, it is a good reason to follow the flight tests before signing for a rival.

    Frequently Asked Questions

When will the Gulfstream G300 enter service?

Gulfstream is targeting certification and first customer deliveries in 2027. That date depends on a successful flight test programme.

    How far can it fly?

The quoted range is 3,600 nautical miles at Mach 0.80, or 3,000nm at Mach 0.84.

    Which aircraft does it replace?

It replaces the G280, which has been Gulfstream’s super-midsize model since the early 2010s.
